metall

Metall is a Reykjavík-based web design studio with an impressive client list that includes Google, Whole Foods, Volvo, and more. They asked me to help bring their brand identity to life through a set of bold 3D visuals.

My role was to design and animate a hero video for their homepage, along with a series of still-life images to use across their website and social channels. The goal was to capture their nostalgic yet forward-looking vibe in a way that felt true to their brand and instantly eye-catching

R&D PROCESS

Alli had a clear vision of his inspiration: Metal! The 80's, Skateboard Culture, Stickers, Skulls, Stranger Things, Video Games.

Together we brainstormed items to showcase and what they represent. For instance old VHS tapes to represent the time they have been in this business - they've been around the block and know a thing or two about what they are doing!

Since the project is heavily influenced by nostalgic inspiration I suggested adding a little bit of more futuristic elements like neon/glowing power cables coming from the TV that is the center focus of the piece.

I built a mood board with images that represented the vibe we were going for. Retro pictures of computer hardware, close up of cool screen glitches. Cluttered workstations/teenagers rooms, scratched up VHS cover, futuristic neon signs and photographs of atmospheric settings with lights and fog etc.
